Christopher had a long career with the London Wine Merchants, Findlater Mackie Todd & Co. Ltd. He was appointed Chairman in 1988 and continued in this position for seven years, following the acquisition of the company by the John Lewis Partnership in 1993. He has been Chairman of the Trustees of the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust, President of the Royal Warrant Holders Association, and Chairman of the Rye Festival Council; he is currently Chairman of Governors at St Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Primary School. He lives in Rye.
