Henry the Dog
Henry the DogEvery dog has his day ...Henry the Dog, a four year old border collie, has been the centre of a new fundraising campaign for St Michael's Hospice. Henry became a canine ambassador for the Hospice when he appeared on a promotional postcard distributed across Hastings & Rother. This postcard has generated donations totalling an amaxing £6,000 and Henry's story is a glimpse into the holistic care offered to each and every patient in our care. Henry became a regular visitor when Peter, his master, became ill and was admitted to St Michael's. Henry offered joy to patients and staff alike. We know how therapeutic animals can be and believe people should not have to worry about the future of their pets. Before Peter died we arranged for someone else to 'hold Henry's lead'. That person, Deb Abbott, a registered nurse at St Michael's has provided Henry with a loving new home. Peter's last wishes included a request for the Hospice to organise a 'Henry Day' to celebrate his faithful pet who became such a friend to everyone, even receiving a warm pat from the Secretary of State for Health on his visit to the Hospice last September. We have done exactly that. They say that every dog has day, but in Henry's case it is three events and four days when Henry will be celebrated and will also help to raise funds for the Hospice. On Sunday 5th July he will make a guest appearance at the Stonegate Dog Show at Old Battenhurst. On August 1st and 2nd, at Step Back in Time, he will take part in a 'Scurry' - an organised dog race which anyone can enter, a dog dancing class and an agility demonstration by 'Ditto Dogs'. To find out more about these events and to get involved contact Sue Farndale on 01424 456371 or send an email.
