Bereavement Services
St Michael's Bereavement ServiceSupporting you in bereavement. The death of someone close to us may be the most devastating and overwhelming experience that will ever happen to us. We will all react differently following the death of someone close, and there are no right or wrong ways to cope. The grief that follows a loss is not an illness but a normal human journey during which the bereaved person adapts to living without their loved one. St Michael's Bereavement Service provides one-to-one and group support for individuals who are bereaved and in need to extra support during their most difficult period of grief. Anyone can access the service by telephone on 01424 446589 and self refer. We also take referrals from medical professionals, hospice staff, mental health services and social services either by phone, letter or the Bereavement Referral form. Individuals will be then offered an initial appointment to talk through how their bereavement is impacting on them and we will explain what we are able to provide. Bereavement support can be given through one to one support or in a group. One to one support is agreed at at time that is convenient for both parties and this can include evening appointments up until 7pm. It will be at the same time each week with the same bereavement supporter. Bereavement Support can last from six weeks to 3 months or longer if required. A bereavement support group lasting ten weeks is also available for people who prefer to talk to others who are going through a similar experience. The group combines information about the process of grief as well as providing emotional support and somewhere to share thoughts and feelings with others.
