IPS - Infomation for Visitors

Contacting the In-Patient Service

Our doctors and nursing staff are happy to receive phone calls from family or friends wanting further information.  Friends and family can contact patients by phoning 01424 456603.  There is also a pay phone available for out-going calls.

Visiting

Visitors, including children and pets, are welcome at any time except during the patients’ rest period between 1-3 pm when visits are at the discretion of the nurse in charge.

A selection of toys, books and play equipment are available for children to use in the ward / reception area.

Overnight facilities for family and friends may be available upon request.

Parking

Parking is free and is usually available in the visitors' car park.  Alternatively, street parking may be found in the surrounding roads.  There are designated spaces for disabled visitors.

Meals and refreshments

Our Coffee Shop, run by volunteers, offers a service to everyone in the Hospice, providing a range of tea, coffee, soft drinks, sandwiches and snacks, biscuits, cakes and toiletries.  We are proud to stock Fair Trade products.

The Coffee Shop is open between 9am – 8pm.

We are happy to provide a more substantial meal if required by a relative.  These can be ordered via the nurses on the unit who will provide you with a menu sheet.

Smoking

The Hospice is a smoke-free zone.

Due to recent legislation, we now have a no-smoking policy throughout the Hospice.  A smoking shelter is provided for use by patients and their families in the garden.  We would ask you NOT to smoke anywhere else in the grounds.

Gardens

The Hospice gardens offer a peaceful and quiet area where patients and families can spend time and relax.  Our gardener and his team of volunteers ensure that there is always colour and something to enjoy at all times of year.  For images of our gardens please click here.

A new addition is a wheelchair-accessible greenhouse in which we actively encourage patients to take part in the gardening.

On the top lawn you can find a Summer House for the enjoyment of you, your family and friends.  A Sensory Garden offers an interesting range of scents and textures for all.

Books and Gifts

We have a selection of second hand books available to borrow, or buy, which can be found in the reception area.

We have a range of seasonal gifts and cards available within reception.  These items are also available to buy on-line by clicking here.
