The 21st Anniversary Capital Project Up-Date

St Michael's Hospice has a great deal to be proud of.  On his visit to St Michael's on September 29th, the Health Secretary Alan Johnson MP, was generous in his praise about all our services and said "These are the kinds of services we want to see right across the country."   This was good news, but it is clear to the Hospice Trustees that in order to preserve our capacity to deliver excellent services, we must undertake improvements to the fabric of our building.

St Michael's is managing its own economy very carefully in these turbulent times. In October, the Board of the Hospice reviewed current plans for renovation and have revised them.  Work will go ahead in the New Year to implement critical and affordable parts of the building plans.  Currently, there is £293,000 in hand to pay for building works. This is enough money to thoroughly upgrade the bed lift and trolley lift and to undertake gas works to pipes as well as to level the second floor of the building which houses the Nursing Home. Work will also be undertaken to level the bank near the dustbin area at the back of the building and cover the cost of a temporary move of the Nursing Home patients and staff into the Moreton Centre.

The money which the Hospice has raised from fundraising from trusts and from grants has been specifically allocated by funders for Capital Projects and cannot be spent on anything else.

St Michael's will continue to appeal for funds from Trusts, Corporations & Livery Companies, and appeal to Major Donors and apply to the Big Lottery Fund for the money to help us with the work in the future.

The move to the Moreton Centre is to take place in January 2009, while building work also starts in January and finishes in May.
