Quality for life - Choice in care

Trusts and Foundations

St Michael's Hospice enjoys the support of many charitable trusts and foundations. It now costs £4.5 million just to maintain our current level of services, with more than 75% of this going to patient care.

Since the NHS contributes less than 25%, we must raise more than £3million a year to maintain our services. Charitable donations have, therefore, always been vital to our growth from the creation of the Hospice twenty one years ago up to the present day, funding revenue costs as well as capital developments.

Building relationships with new trusts and foundations is very important to us and we are enormously grateful to all those who support our work, helping us maintain our services for those living with life limiting illness in Hastings & Rother. Some recent examples include:

  • The John Lewis Golden Jubilee Charitable Trust supported the introduction of a professional secondee from their organisation to support our Voluntary Services Department;
  • The Isabel Blackman Foundation gave a significant grant towards the refurbishment of our 4-bedded wards in 2006;
  • The Roger Jefcoate Trust supported the introduction of laptop computers as an aid to Hospice communications;
  • The Catherine Cookson Trust made a large donation towards hospice care.

Such help will enable us to establish the solid financial base necessary so that we can continue to respond to the challenge of caring for those with life-limiting illnesses in the Hastings & Rother region.
