The Patrons' Scheme: Frequently Asked Questions

Introduction: The Patrons' Scheme

If you wish to make a significant and ongoing commitment to the work of the Development Trust then please consider becoming a Patron. A summary is given here and application forms are available.

What is the purpose of the Patrons' Scheme?

The Trust looks to provide long-term funding and with this in mind set up the Patrons' Scheme in 2004. Not only do our patrons raise awareness of the work of the Hospice but their annual pledged contributions also give us an assured level of income and allow us to plan projects well in advance and provide more effective support. In our first 2 years the number of Patrons rose to over 70 and the number is growing all the time.

What is the Commitment of a Patron?

We ask our Patrons to donate a minimum of £500 p.a. This can be paid annually or in instalments by cheque or standing order. Couples may take out joint patronage and there can be corporate patrons, school patrons, sports club patrons or indeed any body or organization willing to support us in this way.

What are the advantages?

You will be helping those in your community who are most vulnerable and in many cases coming to the end of their lives. If you were able to visit the Hospice you would realise how much your contribution means.

On a social note the Development Trust hosts an annual dinner in October which is free to Patrons and provides an interesting forum for Patrons and their guests. So far we have welcomed Paul Merton, Ian Hislop, Boris Johnson, Simon Fanshaw and most recently Jo Brand as our guest speakers. Paul Merton has now become a patron himself.
