LibraryThe library is available to all interested people with simple borrowing arrangements for both books and videos/DVDs. The inclusion of Video’s/DVDs is a new development and draws upon an increasing level of research that suggests that much structured knowledge can be gained from watching films and linking their themes to the wider issues that might be affecting both dying people and those who care for them; for example, Moulin Rouge may help to illustrate links between illness, paternalism and bereavement, whilst Remains of the Day might draw the viewer to consider the place of self control in relation unspoken affection. (I don’t know why Gladiator is really on the shelf other than it’s a good yarn!). As befits a library the shelves support a range of books related to care of the dying person embracing a range of subjects from detailed cell biology to bereavement narratives; the library also stocks a range of specialist journals – European Journal of Cancer Care, International Journal of Palliative Care, European Journal of Palliative Care, Palliative Medicine, Journal of Advanced Nursing and The Daily Telegraph (the value of a daily newspaper can not be overlooked even in this ‘electronic age’!)
